Schroeder was well represented at the Wisconsin Swimming Awards Banquet this last weekend! This Spring, YMCA member-athletes competed at the three National YMCA meets. 22 divers traveled to Fort Lauderdale’s International Swimming Hall of Fame pools, 31 boys and girls traveled to the Greensboro Aquatic Center and 44 adults raced at the Fort Lauderdale complex as well. There is a serious competitive piece to these youth programs but our coaches keep foremost that these are some of the YMCA’s best programs to develop strong character skills in youth and set them up for success in college and for life. Schroeder YMCA brought a great crew of 50 Masters athletes to compete at YMCA Masters Nationals in beautiful Fort Lauderdale! The meet was held at the newly rennovated Hall of Fame pool! This year was extra special because we raced for Schroeder legend and amazing human being, Geoff Mykelby! Geoff is a staple of Schroeder, Masters Swimming and the overall swimming community. As a team, Schroeder placed 4th overall. The women's team placed 5th and the men took home 3rd. See you all there next year!! We are Schroeder!
2023 was one of Schroeder's finest competitve efforts in my career. The team was super to be a part of frpm start to finish and the athletes had worked so hard to produce so many excellent relay and individual performances. Overall Combined 2nd to a fine Greater Sommerset - NJ team Girls second to Greater Sommerset Boys 3rd behind Greater Sommerset and champ Piedmont Family YMCA - VA Schroeder had individual and relay champions and some meet records to boot as well as many finalists!
Schroeder brought 14 athlete to the NCSA Age Group Championships in Orlando, Florida! Lots of fun was had along with some excellent racing! What really stood out to the coaches were how close the group was and how they all pulled for each other over a four day meet! Over the weekend, Schroeder found many ways to have a good time racing at YMCA State! There was lots of fun racing and great team camraderie as Schroeder took 1st place overall! Thank you to all of our families for making this meet happen for over 830 YMCA athletes! It was a great way to end our season! Onto NCSA and YMCA Nationals! Over the weekend Schroeder raced at the Inaugural 11-14 State Championship in Pleasant Prairie! As a team, Schroeder placed 4th overall with both men and women placing 3rd overall for their respective genders. What stood out most to the coaching staff was how tight the team was and how well they competed while dealing with adversity! Schroeder raced over 880 athletes this weekend at the 43rd Annual A+ Swim Meet! Overall there was some great racing highlighted by Olympian Kieran Smith destroying the 500 free meet record in a 4:10.85! Thank you to him and Speedo for taking time with our athletes and teams! This was the first time we brought a group to Winter Juniors and it was a success! Athletes were separated into East/ West, we competed in the West in Austin Texas. This meet included 4 olympians and several highly talented athletes throughout the country. Alana Berlin finaled in the 200 IM and placed 5th in the 100 Back and 6th 100 Fly.
