2021 is quickly coming to a close. In the last year, I have much to appreciate and be thankful for and I am really looking forward to 2022. I will be starting my 27th year at Schroeder which is astounding. My mother was a teacher and I recall that she was eventually teaching the children of her students and now it is happening to me! Moms,Dads, and Grandparents are a very special treat for me personally when they show up with their kids to swim. Numbers of young swimmers and...
25 Schroeder swimmers traveled to Dallas / Lewsiville for a senior meet, December 16 - 19, 2021. It was a great conclusion to the fall season and featured many great individual and relay performances. Schroeder's women finished 3rd behind Razorback Aquahawgs and the Dads Club, and in the combined division, Schroeder was 5th. It was obvious to me (Dave), that Schroeder's swimmers were highly skilled when compared to the other athletes in the meet. Things like Underwater Kicking, turns and our strokes standout to me. Kennedy Rainwater was the top...
Schoreder raced to a 5th place finish at this weekend's Single Age State Championship! This meet is a unique format where athletes get to compete only against athletes of the same age. There was lots of great energy and team togetherness throughout the meet! Congratulations to Maggie Dickinson (2nd place 11 YO girls), Logan Christian (1st place 10 YO boys), and Jude Hill (1st place 12 YO boys) for their high point titles! Thank you to all parent volunteers for making this meet happen! We wouldn't have been able to...
A new idea to help reinforce the values that guide our youth programs through art. We will divide the year into four seasons that correpsond with the four values of the Schoreder Way: Summer = Be Great! Fall = Act with Integrity Winter = Expect Success Spring = Team First! Athletes of any age can submit their own expression of Be Great! to Coach Phil Davies. Phil will curate the seasonal collection and pieces will be displayed on the website or in the newsletter or hung around the pools. Whether...
In an effort to maintain and form relationships with coaches who guide club athletes during the school season and after Chris Martin visited WI some years ago now, I’ve taken to writing a bit about what we are doing and how things are going at the club currently. Chandler and I sent this recently. 21 Fall Update to School Coaches Greetings from Schroeder! We are off to a strong start this fall. We have seen many new young swimmers this fall. I think that parents are now ready to re-engage...
Schroeder has been recognized as a Silver Medal Club in USA Swimming's Club Excellence program for 2022 based on 2021's 18 & Under swimming performances. 2021's performance was the first time since 2016 that SSTY was in the Sliver Medal category and at 47th is the second highest placement for SSTY since the program's inception 21 years ago. The previous high point was in 2014 based on 2013's performances at 38th. It is a program goal to become one of the top 20 or Gold Medal team and this past...
This morning, Saturday, October 9, about 50 JR / SR athletes from RAC and WSAC came together at WSAC to train in the 50M pool. I was knocked out by the whole session. The coaches had talked about the idea at the end of the summer. We settled on two Saturdays this fall to do it and divided the workout with Chandler leading one group and Caleb leading the other one. Zach and Greg helped and I just drank my coffee and tried to stay out of the way. Talk...
Schroeder was very well represented on the 2020-2021 USA Swimming Scholastic All-American Team. Schroeder placed eight student athletes on the team, tied for the 25th amongst all teams in the United States and three more than any other team in Wisconsin. The requirements for the team were maintaining a minimum GPA of 3.5 and achieving a Winter Junior qualifying time in the 2020-21 year. Congratulations to Caden Bjornstad, Adam Braunschweig, Victoria Brostowitz, Ben Lorenz, Jack Lustig, Colin Senke, Jack Sullivan, and Thomas Whowell! Schroeder raced against WEST and EBSC - 12 & U HOME, 13 & O AWAY and came away with wins at both locations in early season competition. At Waukesha South High School, SSTY bested WEST and then EBSC in the "short program" of events with many good early season reps. It was a good contest in a good facility which will also be the site of the 2022 13 & O SCY State meet in the spring. At WSAC, both 10 & U and 11-12 came away victorious with the...
