Schroeder YMCA Swim Team Families,
I am excited to share a personal milestone in my academic journey that directly connects to the key foundation of our program—the well-being and development of our young athletes. As part of my master's program in sports psychology, I conducted and analyzed research for my thesis titled: “Parental Performance Expectations and Their Effects on the Psychological Well-Being and Performance of Youth Athletes”.
This study explores how the expectations parents place on their young athletes can influence their mental health, development, emotional resilience, and athletic performance. Research supported the importance of understanding the dynamic between parental support, athlete motivation, and overall performance. My ultimate goal is to provide extended research that can help families and coaches create a more supportive and balanced environment for our athletes to thrive both in and out of the pool.
Parents play an essential role in shaping the experience of our athletes. By aligning our coaching philosophy with healthy parental involvement, we can continue building a program that prioritizes the long-term growth and success of each swimmer.
If you have any questions about my research or would like to learn more about how you can contribute to this important topic, feel free to reach out to me. Below is the finalized thesis project, I hope you enjoy it!
