Archival Photo Found

Tom Michelson found this historic photo.  I asked for more background and Geri was able to nail it down!

It was 1981.  Jimmy Carter, 1980….we boycotted the Olympics.  In the summer of 1981, the USA National Team were split in two…..half went to Russia to swim and the Russians sent half to swim the USA at Schroeder.  Lots of stories.  We were not allowed to sell them anything with the USA on it……and they all wanted it!  So, we exchanged in the bathrooms.  We bought Levis for them and again hid in the bathrooms.  They wanted to know about all the cars dropping off swimmers?  We were forced to tell them that it was all for show….not real….then we would smile…..We kept track of scores both here and in Russia…..of course we won!

I was [at the other half of the meet] along with Craig Beardsley, Mary T, etc.  I know we had our "A" team in Russia (Soviet Union) and we did beat them :)  I think Craig set a world record in the 200 fly at the meet.
