USA Swim's Russel Mark's Slides From Convention

Russell's slide from his talk

my notes:

Russell Mark

overall theme is there is just no one way to get it done

women

from in season to main meet, DPS stays the same but rate gets higher with the exception of Hersey where strokes went down and tempo stayed the same

men

were about the same

russell is thinking the traditional training that clary and hersey "enjoy" may lead to the the opposite of the trend rather than more speed based training.

Men's Breast

arms in front, body dominant, high tempo

Men's mile

derive pace for mile from the middle 1200 (exclude the 1st 200 and last 100)

women's 100 free breathing patterns

faster women breathing less and even numbers in the 100 M free

how does technique evolve as an athlete ages / matures?

not much change

(soni all on one line)

Front Start

1. pull body down & fwd with arms

2. stay low - don't lift head or upper body - pull your face to the water

3. hips inline or in front of back foot

russell says edge to the front of the platform not the back

look at schoemann

elbows back - franklin example

back start

1. set up position is variable - face away from the way leaning back more? - more pressure on feet less slip

2. feet higher on the wall

3. push back from the block with feet- arms go one the top not pushing away
