USADA's Excellent Guide Available in Office

The United States Anti Doping Agency or USADA, has published an excellent guide to nutrition for athletes.  Copies are available in the office.  Below is a link to the .pdf version and an introduction.  USADA's role is to keep sport 'clean' and usually this body is telling us what we can NOT eat or drink, but this guide is an attempt to work proactively to aid athletes and their families when considering nutrition.

This publication provides general guidelines to help optimize dietary intake for sports competitors. Dietary intake requirements can vary depending upon an individual’s energy expenditure, metabolism, state of health, etc.  Now more than ever, athletes need accurate sports nutrition information. Optimal nutrition is an integral part of peak performance while an inadequate diet and lack of fuel can limitan athlete’s potential for maximum performance.  Unfortunately, there is much misinformation available regarding a proper diet for athletes.  In the quest for success, many athletes will try any dietary regimen or nutritional supplementation promising a new level of physical performance.
